Quilting is an ancient craft. What interests me is translating that craft into a fiber art painting. Inspiration comes from the colors and textures of the fabric, and my subject matter. I often work from pictures I have taken of cityscapes, landscapes, or an unusual flower. Sometimes it is a picture of a place I’ve never been- or one I’d like to revisit. A beautiful piece of hand-dyed fabric can also inspire an abstract piece.
My style favors heightened colors and heavy organic quilting in a semi-abstract manner, where sensuous shapes and curved lines predominate. I use fabric in painterly ways, while sculpting and shaping the fabric with stitching. My desire is that people will enjoy entering the world I have created, and lose themselves in successive layers of detailed texture and color.
