ThreadUtopia sample

Welcome to Roxane Lessa Fine Art Quilt Tapestries.  My name is Roxane and I love to explore new materials and techniques with each art quilt, pillow, and Teeny Tiny Art Quilts. I  make subjects appear less realistic by using unusual colors, and culling only the most interesting lines and shapes. Be sure to check out my Portfolios page to see all the latest tapestries and designs, featuring my contemporary art quilts like the Sculptured Silk Series, and the Water Series.   Keep up to date on the latest quilt making Classes & Workshops and local Events. Please check out my fine art Blog for the latest happenings and fibre art making tips.

Today’s Topic:

I know who you are.  You’ve been in my classes.  You’ve confessed already.  You drool over those “tricky gorgeous” threads, but you are afraid to use them!  Well, fear and drool no more!  TA DA!  ThreadUtopia is here to save the day!  Here’s the class description:

THREADUTOPIA:  Where all your thread dreams come true…

In this class we will teach you how to use all those pretty specialty threads you have drooled over, but were afraid to use.  I’m talking about the sparkly ones, the thin ones, the fat ones, the invisible ones, the shiny ones- you get the idea.  We will learn about the importance of needle and bobbin tension, types of needles, what threads to use for different effects.  You will have confidence when using these wonderful threads.  We will make a sampler art quilt wall hanging, and practice with different threads.  A small kit of threads will be for sale to practice with or bring your own: metallics, rayon, variegated, monofilaments, glitter, threads to heavy to go in the needle i.e. Candlelight, Razzle Dazzle for bobbin work.

Coming in May and June at Bernina World of Sewing in Raleigh, NC. Call store to register, soon as class size will be limited.

TODAY’S TOPIC

Kuler is a cool website I found on Nancy Cook’s blog.  One of her commentators posted about it.  I went there and played.   You can test out all kinds of color schemes and upload your photos and it will pick out colors from your image.  What’s more is you can:

*save and post your color schemes

*try different versions of it: like dark or muted

*look at other people’s color schemes

Does anyone of my students see how this could be useful at all, maybe a little bit????

Check this out, click on this:  MY image color scheme

This is the image I got those colors from:

Moonflower

Neato, huh?

If you want to play too, just download by going to their home page, click on Kuler, the first word of this post to get you there.

Have fun!

Roxane
